THE NARROW PATH

Updated: Jun 18, 2022

by Sabra Jenkins

The one path of life - one foot in front of the other.

But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day (Prov. 14:4); ... narrow is the way ... (Matt. 7:14)

Ingredients

  • Preparation

  • Patience

  • Perseverance

  • Purpose

  • Peace

  1. PREPARATION - Webster's Dictionary defines preparation as the action or process of making something ready for use or service or of getting ready for some occasion, test, or duty. The Bible is replete with admonishing us to prepare for current events as well as future events as portrayed in Scripture. Our example is that of the ten virgins -- of which five were prepared, and five were not. The five who were prepared for the future were ready and (Matt. 25:7) were allowed to go to the wedding. The present sense of preparedness is found in the account that when asked what the hope of our calling is, we will be able to give an answer (1 Pet. 3:15). We should always be ready to give anyone an answer to our life-changing experience through God's grace and love. Prepare your heart to continue in faith until the plans come to pass.

  2. PATIENCE - According to the English Language Learners' Definition, patience is a) the ability to wait for a long time without becoming annoyed or upset; b) the ability to remain calm and not become annoyed when dealing with problems or with difficult people; and c) the ability to give attention to something for a long time without becoming bored or losing interest. (KJV James 1:4). It may require days, months, or years of waiting patiently. The patience of Job and the longsuffering that comes along with it is an ensample for us as believers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The other example for us Believers is that of Joseph, he knew he would be a great leader one day, but the journey to that place was arduous. But through patience, he obtained the promise. If you've received a promise from God about your life, hold fast to that and walk the path He's laid out for you.

  3. PERSEVERANCE - According to the English Language Learners Definition of, perseverance is the quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though it is difficult. This character trait in a Believer is essential for temerity because we’re in a spiritual war that requires our consistent effort no matter what, knowing that the battle is won. (Eph. 6:18). Perseverance may require pushing through some of the most difficult situations against what may seem like little or no progress. (Roms. 5:3-4) Scripture says that it produces excellent desired results in the life of a Believer. Tenacity is a good characteristic if we apply it to our dreams and goals, the God-given desires, and do not faint when the going gets rough. (Roms. 8:28) So many accounts in Scripture portray the determination to continue despite obstacles by enemies who tried to block or stop the plans. Set your heart to continue, set your heart to watch as you persevere how God turns it around for your good. He says all things work together for your good. (Titus 2:7)

  4. PURPOSE - The definition of purpose is explained in the Oxford English Lexicon as the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. Wonder of wonders, why was I born - what destination will land me success? Where and how did I end up with my family, and why don’t I see the path? When I finish trekking through these hills and valleys, in what direction will I be looking? Will I land on a plateau filled with green fields, purple flowers, and grand oak trees? Will it be near a beach with a perfect view of the horizon, watching sunsets, sunrises, and saltwater breezes? Will my last days be filled with grandchildren’s laughter or the silence of a rest home! Have I walked the path of purpose as ordained by Father, or did I choose to go my own way, and how is that working for you? When we are misguided either by our own volition or the advice of another, we are placing our desires above God's divine plan for us. Scripture says He knows the plans He has for you -- plans to prosper you and give you good success (Jer. 9:11). He also has a book written about you from the foundation of the world. He calls it predestination. There's only one way to ask what your purpose in life is -- ask the Maker. He'll let you know. Ask for wisdom - He gives it liberally. (Eph. 2:10).

  5. PEACE - Oxford English Lexicon defines peace as freedom from disturbance and tranquility. In these most chaotic times, we are made aware of all the mental health issues, disturbed people overwhelmed by the times, the trends, and the bleak outlook portrayed by the media. People are looking for a tranquil place to rest; without peace, how can one rest? Without peace how can one have hope? God has promised that He would keep us in perfect peace IF (Isa. 26:3) ... The peace He offers is unlike anything the world can offer, but we must pursue it and hide in our hearts and souls the knowledge of His grace and provision. Again, He says He has overcome the world (John 16:33), even though the world is promoting fear and famine. God's got the tranquility we are looking for -- but it is a decision we must make to pursue His peace and trust His process. Nothing in this world takes Him by surprise. He is the only God who promises this kind of peace. (Phil. 4:7)
